The New F-35 Super Lightning for unknown buyers
The Pentagon said Lockheed Martin had won a nearly $50 million contract to provide "technical assistance" for an unspecified foreign country's variant of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
Lockheed Martin Corp. [from] Fort Worth, Texas, was awarded a $49,059,494 construction contract and a contract to support the design and development of the Joint Strike Fighter, an aviation alternative to an unspecified foreign aircraft. ... Military Sales Customer (FMS), the Department of Defense said in a Dec. 27 statement.
More than three-quarters of contract work is done in Fort Worth, Texas, and another 14% in Redondo Beach, California, according to the Department of Defense.
A fraction of other current jobs in Orlando, Florida (6%); Baltimore, Maryland (1%); Ovego, New York (1%) and Sumlesbury, United Kingdom (1%) added new publications.
The project is expected to last five years and be completed by December 2026. The F-35 is available in three versions, each with a single jet engine.
The F-35A has a standard takeoff and landing mode (Air Force), the F-35B has a vertical short takeoff/pandemic mode (Navy/Marine) and the F-35C has a deck variant. , specifically for the US Navy. Both the F-35B and F-35C can operate from aircraft carriers.
The $50 million deal Lockheed Martin wins could include some changes to the F-35B variant, which is operated by American allies such as Britain and Italy, as well as the US Marines.
According to the Lockheed Martin website, the program has eight international partners - the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, Norway, Denmark and Canada. Many of FMS' partners, including Japan and Singapore, buy F-35Bs from the United States.
